Court of Appeal Extends Status Quo Order in W15 Weligama Incident Case

The Court of Appeal today heard the writ application filed by former Director of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), ASP Neville de Silva, and other CCD members concerning the W15 Weligama incident.

During proceedings, several petitioners, including a former Officer-in-Charge (OID) of the CCD, informed the court that they no longer wished to proceed with the case and were accordingly released.

The state strongly objected to any further extension of the status quo order against ASP Neville de Silva. However, after hearing submissions from the President’s Counsel representing the petitioner, the court decided to extend the order, maintaining the current status regarding Neville de Silva. The petitioner has been granted additional time to file further documents before supporting the case.

The matter is scheduled for support on April 28, 2025.

Legal representation for the petitioner included President’s Counsel Eraj de Silva, along with Daminda Wijayaratne, Harith Hettiarachchi, N. K. Ashokbharan, Sanjana Mapatuna, and Parami Gunawardena, instructed by Dimuthu Kuruppuarachchi.
