In response to the ongoing dry weather conditions, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to conserve water resources. Anoja Kaluarachchi, Deputy General Manager of the NWSDB, emphasized the importance of prudent water usage amidst the current weather patterns.
Kaluarachchi clarified that although water levels are currently sufficient, a 15 percent increase in water consumption has been observed due to the dry weather. To mitigate potential shortages, the NWSDB may resort to implementing a shift-based water supply system in April if the dry spell persists. However, she assured the public that no water supply restrictions have been enforced thus far.
Residents in higher elevations and outermost areas of water projects may experience lower water pressure as a result of increased demand and the prevailing weather conditions. Nonetheless, the NWSDB reiterated that no limitations on water supply have been imposed in any regions at present.
The public is urged to adopt water-saving practices as a precautionary measure to ensure sustainable usage throughout this period of dry weather. By conserving water resources, individuals can contribute to maintaining adequate supply levels and alleviating potential strain on the water distribution system.
