The overall rate of inflation as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) on year-on-year (y-o-y) basis increased to 1.5% in April 2024, the Department of Census & Statistics (DCS) says.

Last month, the CCPI-based inflation was calculated at 0.9%, according to the latest figures published by the DCS.

The DCS attributed this to the price increases in groups of transport, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics, education, restaurants and hotels, miscellaneous goods and services, recreation and culture, communication, clothing and footwear, furnishing household equipment and routine household maintenance, and price decreases recorded in the groups of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and health compared to the month of April 2023.
