Update – According to Hirunews, 7 persons died and over 40 hospitalized following a Bus-Van-Threewheeler accident in Nuwara Eliya Radella area. All 6 persons in the van and three-wheler driver reported dead. 41 school students of Thurstan College Colombo injured after the bus fell down a precipice.
Students are NOT among the seven deaths reported following the accident in Radella, Nuwara Eliya. The deceased were those traveling in a van and three-wheeler that collided with a bus. 41 students were admitted to hospital and are out of harms way. reports Newsfirst.
The Principal of the Thurstan College says that the condition of NONE of the students, who were travelling in the Bus, is serious, reports Hirunews.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed relevant officials to provide all necessary assistance to the students injured in the accident at Nanu Oya and if required for the Air Force to airlift those who are serious to Colombo: PMD
The bus had been carrying students from Thurstan College, Colombo, who had been on an Educational Tour. The bus had been returning to Colombo from Nuwara Eliya when it plunged 40 feet down a precipice in the Nanuoya area, following a collision with a van.
The police say that 7 people and at least 40 people have been injured when a bus overturned a cliff on the Nanuoya Radella. According to information received, the accident occurred when a group of school students were going on their annual educational trip to Nuwara Eliya and about 50 people were traveling in the bus.
Currently, the injured are being brought to the Nuwara Eliya Hospital and arrangements have been made to provide them with the necessary treatment as soon as possible, says the Director of the Nuwara Eliya Hospital. According to the information received so far, the bus collided with a van and a three-wheeler and fell down the cliff.
