Over 3,000 complaints concerning incidents of bribery and corruption have been received in the first 9 months of 2024, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said.
Accordingly, the CIABOC reported that a total of 3,045 complaints have been received from 01 January until 30 September 2024.
During this period, 81 raids have been conducted across the island, leading to the arrest of 67 individuals.
Among the people arrested are 45 government officials including 20 police officers, 03 Grama Niladhari officers, 03 Kathi Court Judges and 02 revenue inspectors.
In addition to this, 22 civilians have been arrested in raids.
In the first 9 months of this year, 68 people were prosecuted and 56 cases have been resolved, the CIABOC said.
The commission further said that 237 cases related to bribery and corruption are still being heard in courts and that 19 defendants have been proven guilty within this year.
