The Inter University Students’ Federation IUSF to launch a protest in Colombo on February 4 demanding the release of their students and repeal the PTA. The protest is scheduled to start from University of Sri Jayewardenepura this evening.
Meanwhile, Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court issues an order to those planning to take part in protests, including IUSF Convenor Wasantha Mudalige and IUBF Convenor Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma thera, prohibiting protests, marches and demonstrations which are conducted blocking roads and inconveniencing the public. There however is NO prohibition on peaceful protests.
Heavy police and military personnel presence is witnessed since afternoon in Wijerama area ahead of the protest march.
On February 3rd, Fort Magistrate’s Court issued an order upon the request of the police, preventing entry to Galle Face and surrounding areas on February 4th, in a manner that would disrupt the 75th Independence Day celebrations in Sri Lanka.
