The stretch of road between Gallella and Manampitiya remains inundated after Mahaweli Road overflew due to heavy rainfall in the area.
Vehicular movement along the Polonnaruwa – Batticaloa road between Gallella to Manampitiya was restricted to heavy vehicles starting at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (Dec.28) as a result.
The traffic division of Polonnaruwa Police, however, took measures to close the stretch of road traffic as the inclement weather prevails.
Due to the prevailing downpours in the Polonnaruwa District, all 10 sluice gates of the Parakrama Samudra have been opened by 2 feet each at 10:00 p.m.
The motorists travelling to Batticaloa are urged to use alternate routes via Giritale, Elahera, Bakamuna and Dehiattakandiya.
