The Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake described the 2024 Presidential Election as the best in the nation’s electoral history, emphasizing that the election process was notably peaceful, with no reports of violence during the polling period.
The Elections Commissioner General mentioned this, while making a special statement to the media this evening (21), after the voting for the 2024 presidential election concluded.
The voting for this year’s presidential election commenced at 7.00 a.m. this morning and concluded at 4.00 p.m., at a total of 13,421 polling stations across the country facilitating the election.
The voter turnout was reported remarkably high, exceeding 75% in several key districts.
Mr. Ratnayake also announced that vote counting will take place at 1,713 designated counting centers, with results expected to be processed efficiently in the coming hours.
