Colombo LankaXpress – Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament, elected during the historic November 14 General Election, includes a diverse group of professionals, highlighting the changing dynamics of the country’s political landscape.
Notably, 18 medical doctors are among the newly elected members of Parliament, with 16 of them representing the National People’s Power (NPP). The new Parliament also includes 21 schoolteachers and 16 lawyers, showcasing a blend of expertise from the education and legal sectors.
The NPP, under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, secured a landmark two-thirds majority by winning 159 seats, ushering in what many see as a transformative era in Sri Lankan politics.
